Warriors coach Stephen Kearney reportedly set to sign three-year contract extension image

Warriors coach Stephen Kearney is reportedly on the verge of signing a three-year contract extension with the club.

According to the NZ Herald, Kearney has received an offer to remain at the helm of the Warriors until the end of the 2022 season.

The extension is likely to be announced before the start of next season. His current deal expires at the end of 2019.

Joining the Warriors in 2017, Kearney wasn't able to deliver on-field success in his first season, finishing a lowly 13th.

But the Warriors stunned the NRL to finish in eighth spot in 2018, winning 15 of their 24 games to finish just two competition points off first.

That was after several pundits predicted them to be wooden spooners before a ball was kicked this season.

It was their first finals appearance since 2011, the year they reached the grand final against Manly.

They were knocked out by Penrith in an elimination final in week one of the play-offs.

If Kearney does sign on for a further three years, he will equal Ivan Cleary's six-season tenure (2006-11) as the longest-serving coach in Warriors history.

Following Cleary's exit from the club, coaching instability plagued the Warriors.

Brian McClennan, Matthew Elliott and Andrew McFadden all came and went in the space of just five seasons.

But it seems they've finally found their man to take them into the future in Kearney, the former Parramatta and New Zealand international coach.
