Valentine Holmes provides update on his NFL journey image

Former Sharks superstar Valentine Holmes is supremely confident of making an impact in the NFL as his journey with the New York Jets continues.

Holmes is back in the country at the moment to catch up with friends and family, and has been training hard to try and acclimatise himself to his new sport.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Fox League on Sunday, Holmes spoke about his self-belief and determination to set the NFL alight the same way he did here in the NRL.

“I’m a confident person and I like to back myself,” he said.

“It’s a very different game, I’ve put on quite a bit of size and I’m learning the playbooks which is good.

“The training is quite different, it’s a lot shorter sharp bursts and no long-distance running which suits me more and I’m adapting well to it.”

The 23-year old played 105 games for the Cronulla Sharks and scored 66 tries, as well as five games for Queensland and 13 for Australia.

Holmes was an integral part of the Sharks 2016 premiership win and on his day was one of the most breathtaking and dominant fullbacks in recent history, and the love he has for rugby league will never go away.

“I do miss it a little bit, I was getting a bit itchy sitting and watching and kind of wanted to get out there,” he said.

“It was definitely hard today, obviously we scored more tries and still came out with a loss but I’m sure they will definitely learn from that.”

The Jets have struggled in recent times but could return to the playoffs this season after the acquisition of arguably the best running back in the league in Le'Veon Bell.

Holmes will return to his home town of Townsville this week before heading back to the Big Apple, where he will continue to push towards a debut with the Jets, who kick off their 2019/20 season against the Buffalo Bills on the 9th September.
