Knights forward Tyson Frizell has inked a contract extension, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2024 NRL season.

Although the veteran's new deal includes potential player and club options to keep him in the Hunter until the end of the 2026 campaign.

The first option will be in Frizell's favour for 2025, with a mutual option between both the player and the club for the following season then potentially being activated should Frizell opt to play through the 2025 season with the Knights.

Frizell moved to Newcastle in 2021 after a lengthy stint at the Dragons and has remained one of the club's most consistent players, playing 55 games in the red and blue jumper.

The 31-year-old had attracted interest from the Wests Tigers, while his former club St George Illawarra were also reportedly keen on acquiring his services.

The news comes in the wake of the club announcing recently that they will farewell local product Lachlan Fitzgibbon at the end of this season, with the second-rower joining UK-based club Warrington on a three-year deal.

Knights Director of Football Peter Parr said the extension was a major boost for the club, who are still pushing for a finals berth and are looking to build themselves back into a premiership force in the coming years.

"We are delighted Tyson has recommitted to the club," Parr said.

"His football this year has been as good as it has ever been.

"Tyson’s presence both on and off field is highly valued by our club.

"We look forward to him continuing to play well and provide leadership to help further develop our playing group, especially the young players coming through."

Frizell joins the likes of Daniel Saifiti and Kalyn Ponga in committing to the club long-term.
