A superb Blake Austin try inspired Warrington Wolves to a hard-fought 26-14 win over Wigan Warriors at Anfield.

Declan Patton's score helped the second-placed Wolves into an 8-2 lead at the break but Wigan began the second half strongly – Joe Burgess going over in the corner – and it was all square at 8-8 in the 53rd minute.

Man-of-the-match Austin then stepped up to turn the contest decisively in Warrington's favour, scything through the Warriors' defence before Patton added the extras.

Toby King added a converted try to help move his side to with four points of leaders St Helens, meaning Wigan had too much to do by the time Willie Isa went over.

In stark contrast to the keenly contested encounter that closed Saturday's Magic Weekend action, Huddersfield Giants ran amok against Hull FC – storming to a landslide 55-2 win.

Joe Wardle chased Oliver Russell's chip to open the floodgates in the sixth minute and younger brother Jake Wardle got in on the act inside the first quarter of the contest.

Darnell McIntosh, Adam O'Brien and Jermaine McGillvary all helped themselves to doubles, with McIntosh named man of the match for a superb all-round performance.

Alex Mellor and Aaron Murphy also went over, with Russell kicking 15 points.

Catalans Dragons are third, splitting Warrington and Hull, after beating Wakefield Trinity 25-18 in the day's opening game on Merseyside.

Ben Garcia's second try of the match a minute from time saw Catalans home – even though a 12-0 half-time lead evaporated after Chris Chester's men chalked up 14 unanswered points within seven minutes of the restart.

Fouad Yaha and Tony Gigot also went over for the Dragons, with the latter landing four kicks and slotting a late drop goal before Garcia sealed victory.
