South Sydney Rabbitohs have snared versatile St George Illawarra Dragons outside back Steven Marsters for the 2020 season.

Young enough to play under 20s, Marsters has impressed for the Dragons in the Canterbury Cup this year.

The 19-year-old cousin of Wests Tigers centre Esan Marsters has scored six tries from 14 matches in reserve grade.

A junior Kiwis representative and Cook Islands international, Marsters will provide competition for spots out wide at the Rabbitohs with veteran centre Bryson Goodwin also joining the club.

“We’re delighted to be able to give Steven an opportunity to play for South Sydney next season,” said Rabbitohs general manager of football Shane Richardson.

“Steven is a talented outside back who will add great depth to our stocks in the back line.

“He has already represented at the international level in both junior and senior football and, at only 19 years of age, we’re looking forward to seeing him further develop his game towards an NRL debut.

“He forms a major part of our strategy to sign top quality, young players with great pedigrees and great character, and we’re really excited to watch him grow as a player and as a person at our club.”

Marsters made his Test debut for the Cook Islands in a World Cup qualifier versus South Africa in June, breaking the nation's point-scoring record with an 18-point haul.
