Phil Gould's 'Last Word' speeches prior to a State of Origin game truly are a thing of beauty.

The legendary coach, administrator and commentator became synonymous with the NSW vs. Queensland rivalry during the 2000s and 2010s, where his trademark passionate speeches would excite fans at the ground and watching at home.

Channel Nine stopped using Gus and his rev-up speeches a few years ago, although it returned during the 2021 series to great fanfare.

Unfortunately, he has not continued the tradition since.

Last year, the Bulldogs' head of football claimed he was "too old these days" for the on-field speech.

There hasn't been official confirmation he won't do it in 2024, although it's unlikely.

If you're feeling the void of Gould's speech tonight, we've got you covered with some of his all-time classics below.

The 2024 series opener between the Blues and Maroons will kick off at 8:05 pm AEST on Wednesday, June 5.
