State of Origin Game 2: NSW Blues player ratings image

New South Wales have earned a dominant 44-12 victory over Queensland to push this year's State of Origin series to a decider.

It was an even first half, but the Blues ran away with it in the second half thanks to a masterclass in the middle from Jarome Luai and Nathan Cleary.

Here's who stood out in New South Wales' crucial win.

1. James Tedesco - 9

Captain material. Tedesco led by example again was seemingly everywhere on the Optus Stadium turf. He never stopped running and kept his side ticking over, stamping his influence on the game. His 265 run metres were the most on ground, too. Deserved a try for his efforts.

2. Brian To’o - 8

The Panthers winger gave Blues fans a scare in the first half when he failed to deal with a ball behind the NSW goal line, but his blushes were spared when Selwyn Cobbo couldn't take advantage. He showed off his strength all game and was part of a lethal left edge. Contributed with a try whilst Queensland were down to 12 men, too.

3. Matt Burton - 9

It's hard to believe this was Burton's Origin debut. The 22-year-old showed great anticipation and soft hands to score his side's first try, as well as making a number of strong runs and even executing a one-on-one strip. His kicking game was impressive, too.

4. Stephen Crichton - 5.5

Crichton struggled defensively in the first half, failing to deal with Queensland's attacking speed. He settled into the game as it progressed, but a sloppy forward pass to Junior Paulo could have been wasteful if the Blues didn't run away with the game.

5. Daniel Tupou - 7

The experienced winger was a little timid but grew in confidence throughout the game. His dodgy pass to James Tedesco in the second half nearly ended badly. As usual, Tupou was tidy under the high ball and also contributed with a try.

6. Jarome Luai - 8

Not his finest first half, but Luai ended up being crucial to this Blues' win. He made things happen on attack and was able to create chances on his own, perfectly demonstrated in his stunning solo try. His footwork was silky all match.

7. Nathan Cleary - 9.5

24 points. Two tries. Two try assists. 100% conversion rate. An undisputed man of the match performance.

8. Payne Haas - 6

Haas was a tad clumsy at times but provided a helpful offload. He was limited to 37 minutes of action and didn't stand out despite his solid showing.

9. Apisai Koroisau - 6

The Panthers hooker was moved into the starting lineup for Game 2 and was brought off late in the first half. Koroisau didn't do anything wrong but struggled to stamp his influence on the game. Tackled hard, though.

10. Jake Trbojevic - 8

Returning to the Blues side for this match, the veteran forward avoided any serious punishment for a dangerous tackle early on. For the remainder of the game, he was everywhere and did his job very well. Mr Consistent.

11. Cameron Murray - 7

His early charge down on Cameron Munster's kick set the tone for the match, but he was forced off a matter of minutes later due to a HIA. He returned shortly after and was able to contribute with his aggression and agility for the remainder of the match.

12. Liam Martin - 7.5

For his 71 minutes on the field, Martin barely stopped. Had three missed tackles but made up for it with his attacking contributions. Always physical. Always positive.

13. Isaah Yeo - 8

Hard to fault anything that Yeo does. It's clear that his cool-headed yet physical play style is crucial to NSW's game plan. Notably, his 35 tackles were the most of any Blues player.

14. Damien Cook - 7.5

When Cook came on late in the first half, the speed of NSW's play appeared to quicken. He provided a much-needed spark and barely put a foot wrong. With his performance, he could earn a re-call as the starting Blues hooker.

15. Angus Crichton - 7

Subbed in early for Cameron Murray, Crichton was tough as nails. He copped a boot to the chin but pushed on, even scoring a try in the second half.

16. Junior Paulo - 8

After receiving some criticism following his Game 1 performance, Paulo was terrific in Perth. 123 run metres and 46 post-contact metres was an impressive output off the bench. He was a try-scoring threat, too.

17. Siosifa Talakai - 6

Coming on for his Origin debut with 20 minutes remaining, Talakai was able to show glimpses of his physicality. A great option off the bench, but wasn't needed tonight.
