State of Origin: Josh McGuire facing one-match ban for late shot on James Maloney image

Josh McGuire is facing a week on the sidelines after the Cowboys and Maroons enforcer went late and hard on James Maloney on the final tackle of Origin II on Sunday night.

McGuire is looking at a grade one dangerous contact charge for the hit on Maloney, which left Blues coach Brad Fittler fuming into his Tooheys New after the game.

"I'd like to see that last tackle again, the last tackle of the game and some of the stuff that was going on towards Jimmy," Fittler fumed.

"I'll have a look at that."

Pressed on Wallace's late shot on Maloney earlier in the second half, Fittler turned the attention back to McGuire's tackle.

"That was alright but I haven't seen the last tackle," he said.

"… For that time of the game I'd like to see the last tackle and I haven't seen that.

"But I'm sure, what is it, the review board or the (match) review committee, they'll have a look at it."

McGuire is facing a one-match ban. If he takes the early plea, he’ll have 35 carryover points. If he fights and loses he’ll have 80.

For the trivia buffs out there, McGuire doesn’t have any prior similar offences in the last two years, which would have given him an additional 50 per cent loading.

He does have four, yes four non-similar offences, though. That carries a 20 per cent loading.

While the last tackle efforts of McGuire and Kaufusi drew Fittler’s ire, Wallace escaped any sanction for a late shot on Maloney that earned a penalty in the second half.
