South Sydney Rabbitohs v Sydney Roosters: Alex Johnston leaves field with hamstring injury after touching the ball once image

Star South Sydney fullback Alex Johnston has left the field against the Sydney Roosters with a hamstring injury within the first two minutes on Friday night, and it was confirmed that the Bunnies number one wouldn't return to the game.

While still in the first set of the match, Johnston took the ball when on the attack for Souths but passed the ball off and pulled up very quickly.

The 23-year-old speedster immediately signalled to the sheds for the physio before slowly walking off the pitch at ANZ Stadium.

You can watch the incident in the video below.

In what has been called the clash of the year with the first-placed Rabbitohs taking on the 3rd-placed Roosters, not having either Greg Inglis or AJ steaming in was a big blow for fans who were eagerly anticipating the clash.

In response, Maroons centre Dane Gagai moved to fullback while Tyrell Fuimaono shifted into the centres, meaning the centre combination of Fuimaono and Hymel Hunt is hardly as dangerous as GI and Gagai.

Thomas Burgess left the field shortly after with a blood issue that required a bandage, and the Roosters took advantage straight away.

James Tedesco finished some brilliant work from Victor Radley and the Chooks found themselves up 6-2 after an earlier Souths penalty.

A Latrell Mitchell penalty goal extended the lead back to a converted try.

NRL physio provided an update on how long we could expect Johnston to be out for.
