Siosifa Talakai has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Cronulla Sharks, keeping him in the Shire until the end of 2026.

The hard-hitting centre has been rewarded for a stellar 2022 season at Cronulla, where he scored seven tries and produced nine try assists.

His form at club level saw him called up to the NSW Origin side, making appearances in two of the three games in the series loss to the Maroons.

Talakai was due to come off contract with the Sharks at the end of 2023, but the 25-year-old has secured his future at the club which handed him an NRL lifeline.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunities the Sharks have provided me to this point and really excited to be extending my contact and remaining at the club for the next four years,” he said.

“I enjoy a close bond and have great friendships with my teammates and coaching staff which played a part in my decision to re-sign.

"With the quality of the players we have I believe we can do something special here at the Sharks next year and in the years ahead.”

Talakai remains on an extended break and will re-join the club's pre-season training in early-2023.

The news of Talakai's extension comes after Ronaldo Mulitalo and Briton Nikora both inked long-term extensions earlier this year.
