It's been a triumphant year for the Bulldogs, emerging from the NRL wasteland to become true title contenders.
The team has been buoyed by star performers like Stephen Crichton and Jacob Kiraz, as well as fan favourites and emerging talents such as Bronson Xerri and Connor Tracey.
But one name that has failed to feature for the Bulldogs in a significant way is Liam Knight, the forward playing just two games for the team so far this season, after only five appearances last season.
After playing 66 games across five seasons for the Rabbitohs, Knight signed with the Bulldogs in the middle of the 2023 season, hoping to join in the future of the club.
But after not even two seasons, Knight could be headed back to Souths, to link up with former coach Wayne Bennett.
While speaking to SEN's 1170 NRL Crunch Time, SMH journalist Adrian Proszenko revealed that the 29-year-old has been linked to a reunion with NRL coaching great Bennett, who is himself returning to the Bunnies after two seasons launching the league's newest franchise the Dolphins.
"I have just heard a whisper too that South Sydney are considering making a play for Liam Knight, who's off-contract and also plays for the club before," Proszenko said.
"He's got a little bit of history with Wayne Bennet, so that could make sense."
With Knight's contract ending with the 2024 season, it does not seem that the Bulldogs will be eager to retain his services, clearing the way for him to make the move back to the Rabbitohs.
Knight is one of a number of players who will be off contract for the Bulldogs this summer, as they continue to build into a genuine contender.
