The Brisbane Broncos have secured the services of young gun Selwyn Cobbo, extending the 20-year-old's contract until the end of the 2025 season.

Cobbo was initially on a deal set to expire next year, but the Broncos have fended off any competition from rival clubs with an upgraded package for the rookie Origin winger.

It has been a whirlwind 2022 for Cobbo, quickly emerging as one of the game's most promising talents.

He has scored 11 tries in 13 club appearances this season, averaging an impressive 125 running metres per game.

His form earnt him a starting spot in Billy Slater's Queensland Origin team, where he has featured in both Games I and II.

Coach Kevin Walters shared his approval of the new deal.

“Selwyn has a great sense of the game, great skill and anticipation and a feel for the game – he is a wonderful young player and this is great news for the Broncos," Walters said in a club statement.

“I just love the way Selwyn goes about his work – he’s always got a smile on his face and we love having him at the Broncos.

“The environment that Selwyn and his teammates are creating themselves is huge for us and we feel we’re on the right pathway as far as growing our culture as a team and a club.”

Cobbo now joins a growing group of young players from the Broncos’ elite pathways system to sign long-term deals at Red Hill, including the likes of Ezra Mam, TC Robati, Cory Paix, Kobe Hetherington and Jordan Riki.

He has also emerged as a candidate to become the Broncos long-term fullback, with comparisons being drawn to successful players - notably, Greg Inglis.
