Queensland to hand Christian Welch debut for Origin decider, report image

Melbourne Storm forward Christian Welch will reportedly earn his Queensland debut in the State of Origin decider on July 10 at ANZ Stadium.

Welch is set to replace Gold Coast Titans prop Jarrod Wallace on the bench, according to Fox League's James Hooper, after he failed to fire in Origin II.

Fellow front-rower Dylan Napa will more than likely retain his place, however, despite a very quiet showing last Sunday.

Speaking on Fox on Saturday night, Walters admitted Welch was well and truly in the race to play.

He hinted the hardworking middle player would have been included in his squad to start the series had it not been for an untimely knee injury.

With limited game time before the second clash with the Blues, Walters overlooked Welch but is now about to hand him a Maroon jumper.

Prop Joe Ofahengaue, who played Origin I but did not feature in game two due to a leg gash, is tipped to return to the bench, with Tim Glasby to push to 18th man.

Walters will otherwise keep the faith in his side despite the 38-6 shellacking they received last start.

He said that wholesale changes weren't necessary and that he's confident his troops can replicate their series-opening heroics to pinch the shield.

Walters will name his squad on Monday, with a meeting between selectors the day prior to determine the final make-up of the side.

Fullback Kalyn Ponga should play despite missing the Newcastle Knights' match on Saturday with a calf issue.
