Wayne Bennett saga drags on at Brisbane Broncos as sacked conditioner lashes club for disloyalty image

The drama surrounding Wayne Bennett's messy departure from Brisbane still isn't finished, with dumped Broncos high-performance manager Jeremy Hickmans taking a shot at the club on social media.

Hickmans worked with coach Bennett over the past 13 NRL seasons, beginning with the Broncos' premiership-winning year of 2006.

The strength and conditioning guru then followed Bennett to St George Illawarra in 2009 – claiming another title during a three-year stint – followed by a spell at the Knights before returning to Brisbane in 2015.

Despite his involvement in an outstanding 11 finals campaigns, Hickmans was punted by the Broncos after Bennett's axing from the club in December.

Hickmans had inked a two-year extension just months before his abrupt termination.

Under the terms of Bennett's fresh contract with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, the super coach wasn't able to bring staff with him – leaving Hickmans out of a full-time job.

However, Bennett's long-time assistant coach Jason Demetriou moved to Souths when a coaching spot opened up weeks into Bennett's tenure at Redfern.

Hickmans took to Twitter this week to look back on being forced out of Brisbane by team management.

"Two months after being sacked I've had time to reflect," his Tweet began.

"Life lessons learned: 1. Don't sign anything on trust and under the promise of loyalty.

"2. Get it all in writing. 3. Sport's a business; loyalty and team is fine when it suits.

"Sometimes it's best to move on and keep having fun!"

The Courier-Mail reported that Hickman was awarded a generous pay-out upon his dismissal.

Hickmans is currently making a living by doing consultancy work.

His high-performance position at the Broncos has been filled by Paul Devlin, who came with new Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold from the Rabbitohs.
