It was truly a tale of two halves on Sunday afternoon in the clash between the Dolphins and Titans - but one side's fanbase will be desperate for answers for the second-straight week.

After flying out to a 26-0 lead in the first-half and AJ Brimson running amok, Gold Coast managed to lose the unloseable game and ended up on the wrong end of a 28-26 scoreline at Suncorp Stadium.

It was the second week in a row the side had given up a half-time lead, but this time they managed to equal an unwanted NRL record that hasn't been touched since 1998.

Despite a couple of blunders from Robert Jennings, the Dolphins managed to gain the lead for the first time with six minutes remaining and despite some razzle-dazzle attempts from the visitors, Wayne Bennett's side came away with their fifth win of the year.

Speaking to the media following the heartbreaking loss, Justin Holbrook was left searching for answers and admitted his side needed to fix their approach during games as opposed to their preparation.

“Just extremely disappointed...we obviously came out ready to go and got a terrific lead, but just completely got dominated in that second-half," he said.

"They just got on a roll, offloading the ball and camped down on our tryline, and then we did a few reckless things ourselves. It was a little bit similar to last week and it cost us.

“That’s the area we’ve got to fix…we’ve put ourselves in a great position and during the game we are getting things wrong. It’s going to be a collective approach by the whole side – we can’t have that continuing.

“We had to try and change the momentum and we weren’t good enough to. We’ve got to be able to change momentum when things aren’t going our way – we are very good when they are.

"We came out and set it up at 26-6, we’ve just got to be better collectively. It doesn’t matter who comes in and who doesn’t – we are just getting it wrong during the game and we’ve got to fix it out there."

Gold Coast made seven errors and missed 37 tackles in Sunday's defeat, and will need to turn things around quickly for their Round 9 clash with Manly.

Titans captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui backed his teammates to turn things around despite their recent struggles.

“Our defence and our attitude - we weren’t making our tackles - and on the flip-side, our attack no one wanted to run hard except for Mo [Fotuaika] and Dave [Fifita]," he said.

"They were the standout ones that wanted to get us going…we just seemed like we wanted to sideways and offload and hope something would happen and that’s the wrong attitude.

"It’s a massive wake-up call, two weeks in a row we have done that and we’ve got to come back next week and make sure we toughen up a little bit.

“It’s obviously frustrating talking now after a loss, but there’s no one else I’d rather have out there. I love the boys and it’s just a learning curve and we make sure we don’t go three in a row.

"We’ve just gotta make sure we keep preparing good and put an 80-minute performance on, not just 40 or 50."
