NRL Round 5: Five standout performers in NSW Cup and QLD Cup image

The depth of talent throughout the QLD and NSW Cups was on full display this week, with a number of signature performances in big-time games.

The QLD Cup was punctuated by a number of blowout victories, including the Capras taking down the Devils 34-0, the Magpies defeating the Dolphins 60-4, and Wynnum-Manly beating Tweed in the battle of the Seagulls, 44-26.

Further south, a cluster of teams all claimed victories with 40-plus point performances, including the Panthers, Jets, Bears, and Warriors.

Here are the top five performers from the NSW and QLD Cups this week.

Bessie Toomaga

The Western Clydesdales scored 44 points in their round 7 win against Ipswich Jets, and Bessie Toomaga was responsible for 24 of them.

Toomaga crossed over for two tries, went 7-7 in conversion attempts, and slotted a penalty for good measure, in a monstrous performance that saw him score 55% of his team's points.

As if that wasn't enough, he also led his team in run metres, going for 248 metres, as well as four tackle breaks, two hit-ups, and one line break assist.

Tyran Wishart

Tyran Wishart came up huge for the Sunshine Coast Falcons in their round 7 win, doing work on both sides of the field.

Offensively, he scored 14 points, via a try, four conversions, and a penalty goal. He also compiled five tackle breaks, as well as a line break, a line break assist, and a try assist.

But he was also impressive defensively, leading his team in tackles with 26.

Solomona Faataape

The Tigers' may not have had a significantly high-scoring win against the Cutters, only scoring 24, but Solomona Faataape was fantastic nonetheless, responsible for three of his team's four tries.

In addition to this, he also led the game in run metres, with 160 metres, and made a staggering seven tackle breaks.

Jack Smith

The Magpies absolutely demolished the Dolphins in their contest, putting 60 points on their opponents including 11 tries.

While there were plenty of try-scoring opportunities to go around, no one capitalised on this more than Jack Smith, who crossed over five times en route to 20 points in the game.

Ronald Volkman

Ronald Volkman starred in his side's 40-30 win over the Sea Eagles, giving the Warriors everything they needed and more.

He had 16 total points, getting over the line for his own try, assisting on two more, and converting six of them in total.

Additionally, he made three tackle breaks, as well as a line break and a line break assist, with his fingerprints showing up everywhere for the Warriors in their victory.
