South Sydney started their season in tremendous fashion in Round 1 against Cronulla - but they face an even tougher assignment on Thursday night with a blockbuster clash against defending champions Penrith.

After winning two-straight NRL titles, the Panthers hit an early speed bump with a narrow loss to the Broncos last Friday night, leading to a heated post-game spat between two of their players

For the Rabbitohs, they will be sweating on the fitness of Latrell Mitchell, who picked up a knee injury in the win over the Sharks.

The match between the Panthers and Rabbitohs will begin at 8pm AEDT from BlueBet Stadium in Penrith.
