The NSW and QLD Cups continued over the weekend as some experienced NRL figures made their presence known.

A number of young guns also put their clubs on notice as they look to make the step up to first grade.

Here's who caught our eye across the reserve grade competitions this round.

Blake Taaffe (Rabbitohs)

He appeared on this same list last round, but Taaffe has delivered another noteworthy performance for the Bunnies' NSW Cup team.

The 24-year-old scored over half of his team's points in their win over the Roosters, picking up two tries and slotting four of his five conversions.

He also assisted a try on his way to picking up a strong 176 run metres at fullback.

As it stands, the Rabbitohs simply don't have a full-time spot for him in their first team, but he will surely be ready if injuries or suspensions strike.

In a promising move, he was put on their bench on the weekend following the late scratching of Tom Burgess.

Junior Pauga (Bears)

A regular performer on the wing for the Bears, Pauga had a match to remember on Saturday.

He opened the scoring just four minutes in before scoring another just before halftime.

The most impressive part of his performance, however, was his running game.

Pauga picked up a game-high 268 run metres, guiding his side to a 30-12 win over the Warriors.

Corey Harawira-Naera (Raiders)

Harawira-Naera featured in the NSW Cup over the weekend again after some limited minutes with the first team.

He played all 80 minutes at lock, scoring a last-minute try to tie with the Bulldogs 14-14.

His 40 tackles were a team-high, whilst also picking up 156 run metres.

It remains to be seen whether he will be recalled by Ricky Stuart, but he is certainly doing himself a service with a big performance like this.

Riley Price (Blackhawks)

Price was an attacking weapon on the weekend in the Blackhawks' 54-4 thumping of the Hunters.

Dropping in and out of the Cowboys' NRL side in 2023, the 21-year-old showcased why he is first-grade material.

He picked up the most run metres (220) and linebreaks (3) in the game whilst also crossing for two tries.

Price wasn't needed too much defensively, but he made his 17 tackles at an impressive 94.44 per cent efficiency.

Tariq Sims (Tigers)

Having only featured in five NRL matches so far this season, the experienced Sims was in QLD Cup action again this weekend.

He proved that he still has commanding physicality and ball-running skills, notching a game-high 197 run metres.

In 80 minutes at lock, he also assisted a try and scored one himself.

There is a good variety of players competing for the forward spots at the Melbourne Storm, but Sims' seniority could give him the nod at various stages in 2023.
