Roosters half Luke Keary says time away from NRL has been 'blessing in disguise' image

Sydney Roosters five-eighth Luke Keary says being made to sit out over the past month with concussion concerns has been "a blessing in disguise".

Keary has not played since round 11 after he sustained a heavy head knock against the Newcastle Knights.

It was Keary's second concussion in five weeks, having been dazed versus Melbourne in April.

He was also knocked senseless on his Australian debut last October in a worrying trend.

The Roosters have taken every precaution with the classy pivot, keeping him on ice for their previous two matches bookended by the bye and the representative round break.

Keary believes the four weeks and counting away from the bash and barge of NRL has allowed him to freshen up for the Roosters' run to the finals.

“[It] has been really good. It’s kind of a bit of a reset for everything," Keary told NRL Tonight.

“When I do come back I’ll be 100 per cent. I’m really confident where I’m at.

"I don’t think I’m in any more danger than the next player and the club’s been awesome in how they’ve handled it."

Good to be Back 🏈

Keary is not expected to return for the Roosters until about round 17, another three weeks yet.

That timeframe rules him out as a potential replacement for injured NSW halfback Nathan Cleary for the Origin decider on July 10.

Keary says Sydney have prioritised his welfare and won't clear him to play unless he's fully fit.

“There’s been no pressure to come back or anything like that," Keary said.

“I’ve been training for probably three weeks now, full training.

“I’ve got a bit of a blessing in disguise. I’ve got a bit of work done and I should be good.”
