State of Origin: The data that proves NSW are the speed kings image

Intriguing data from Telstra Tracker proves that NSW will boast the three fastest players to tear up the hallowed Suncorp Stadium turf in tonight's State of Origin opener.

According to statistics from this NRL season, Blues winger Josh Addo-Carr is the speediest player from both NSW and Queensland, having recorded a top pace of 38.5km/h.

NSW centre Latrell Mitchell (36.6) and dynamic fullback James Tedesco (35.7) are hot on Addo-Carr's sizzling heels.

Queensland custodian Kalyn Ponga ranks fourth with 35.5, just ahead of winger Corey Oates (35.2). They're joined by teammates Will Chambers and Michael Morgan in the top 10.

Blues captain Boyd Cordner and Maroons rookie David Fifita jointly hold the enviable title of fastest forwards, the mobile second-rowers each clocking sprints of 32.9.

The Blues also dominate in the repeated high-speed sprint department, where Tedesco is the undisputed king.

Not only is the 26-year-old lightning quick, but he also boasts a strong motor that allows him to produce effort upon effort.

Tedesco averages the most dashes above 20km/h per match in 2019 with 40 – 10 more than Addo-Carr and halfback Nathan Cleary (30).

Queensland bench utility Moses Mbye (29) comes in next, but it's worth noting he won't see the space he normally does in a club match given he plays fullback for Wests Tigers.
