Controversial Facebook page NRL Memes taken down after Mark Geyer announces legal action image

Controversial Facebook page NRL Memes has been removed after rugby league radio personality Mark Geyer launched legal action over defamation claims.

It is unclear whether Facebook pulled the page or the NRL Memes administrator did so voluntarily.

The page's deactivation was met with widespread praise across social media.

NRL Memes earned the ire of the league community in January when it posted a leaked intimate video of Bulldogs player Dylan Napa.

The page then teased the release of further clips in exchange for 'likes' on one of its posts.

On Monday, NRL Memes implicated Geyer's 22-year-old daughter in the NRL's latest sex tape scandal featuring Panthers player Tyrone May.

Geyer angrily commented on the post – which was soon deleted – demanding to know the identity of those behind the page.

The former Penrith forward then announced on Tuesday via Triple M that he had engaged lawyers on his daughter's behalf.

"To say that my family is devastated by the actions of persons on social media over the past 24 hours is a total understatement," Geyer said.

"My innocent daughter has had her name, honour and integrity dragged through the mud by these completely false accusations.

"They are lies and defamatory in the highest order. I have sought legal advice and prepared the following statement.

"I have today engaged Brydens Lawyers to act on behalf of my daughter, Montanna, for the purpose of taking action against those who have published false and defamatory material which has caused incredible distress for my family.

"On the advice of the solicitors, I do not propose to make any further comment."

NRL Memes' administrator previously boasted "they can't touch me" when asked if he was worried about legal repercussions from the page's inflammatory posts.

The person told The Daily Telegraph:  “Who are they going to serve legal documents to?

“How are they going to find out who administrates this page?”
