The NRL has announced it has increased both the NRL and NRLW salary caps for the 2023 season.

The men's salary cap will increase to $12.1 million next year ($9.6m in 2022), whilst the women's cap will grow to $884,000 in 2023 ($350,000 last season).

Friday's decision marks a 25 per cent and 153 per cent increase in the overall salary caps for the NRL and NRLW, respectively.

The men's NRL Premiership cap will also increase for each club's top 30 players to a historic high of $11.45 million, representing a 22 per cent increase from the 2022 figure.

As part of the new deal, the NRL have announced that the minimum salary for all male players in a club’s top 30 NRL squad will rise to $120,000.

On top of this, development list caps will grow from $240,000 to $650,000.

For the women's Premiership, the 153 percent salary cap increase comes amid a four-team expansion for 2023.

The NRLW will welcome the Canberra Raiders, Cronulla Sharks, North Queensland Cowboys and Wests Tigers to the competition next season.

It represents a rapid growth in Australia's premier women's rugby league competition, which began with just four teams in 2018.

The 2024 salary cap will be confirmed once a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is finalised.
