Queensland border closure: ARLC chairman Peter V’landys confident NRL will be able to play in Queensland despite fresh restrictions image

ARLC chairman Peter V’landys has confirmed that the NRL is expected to maintain their current exemptions to play in Queensland despite the state closing its borders to Sydney.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk made the announcement on Wednesday that their borders to all Greater Sydney residents from 1 am on Saturday as cases continue to spike.

"Queensland will close its borders to all of Greater Sydney. From 1am Saturday, more hot spots will be declared and no one from Sydney will be allowed into Queensland,” she tweeted today.

“Queensland residents returning will have to isolate in a hotel for 14 days at their own expense,” she added in a second tweet.

Despite this, V'landys has confirmed to The Courier Mail that they will continue playing games in Queensland under the restrictions introduced in July, calling it 'business as usual.'

“The latest advisory from the Queensland government doesn’t affect us at all - the competition will go ahead as per normal,” he said.

"There are no plans at all to relocate the Queensland teams,” he added.

Cronulla are set to make the quick trip to Suncorp Stadium on Friday night before the border lockdown is enforced whilst the Roosters' 3pm clash with the Titans on Saturday at the SCG is the first game scheduled after the deadline.
