NRL 2019: Round 14 Team of the Week image

With the teams selected for Origin II, the action of round 14 demonstrated why certain players lost their rep jerseys, and how others gained theirs.

However, some players defied the narrative and, despite losing their Origin gigs, played their hearts out for their clubs.

With rep round upon us, teams now have a chance to reset and prepare for their best combinations available.

Check out Sporting News' team of the week from round 14.

FULLBACK

What. A. Performance. We all knew Tom Trbojevic was a gun, but he fired like nothing else against the Dragons. In only his second game back from a hamstring injury, the Manly fullback ran for over 300 metres for the first time in his career. He also scored a try, one try assist, nine tackle breaks, two line breaks and four offloads. Decent way to win back your Origin jersey.

WINGERS

Blake Ferguson won back his NSW jersey on Sunday, and a day earlier, helped Parramatta to a massive win over the Broncos. The winger broke six tackles and ran for 190 metres, taking his 2019 average to 170. Ken Maumalo was brilliant in a losing cause, the Warriors winger running for 284 metres and scoring two tries.

CENTRES

Michael Jennings wound back the clock for the Eels, scoring a try and breaking six tackles as the Eels whacked Brisbane. Moses Suli also put in one of his better games for Manly as the Sea Eagles swept past the Dragons.

HALVES

Incumbent Maroons halves Cameron Munster and Daly Cherry-Evans both impressed for their respective clubs in big wins. Ominous signs ahead of Origin II.

HOOKER

Three games away from the magic 400, Cameron Smith is still aiming high. The Storm skipper led his side around the park as Melbourne wiped the floor with the Knights.

PROPS

Fresh from switching allegiances to Samoa, Marty Taupau dominated the Dragons, the big man putting on 162 run metres in just 59 minutes. James Tamou's 56-minute burst against the Bunnies saw the Panthers veteran rack up 179 metres in a confidence-boosting win.

SECOND-ROW

Ryan Matterson was unlucky not to walk into the starting NSW side. Crazy considering he didn't even get a gig. Regardless, he's still putting up the numbers for the Tigers and again impressed against the Cowboys. Blues skipper Boyd Cordner, despite battling injury, put in his best performance for the Roosters this season against the Bulldogs.

LOCK

With 122 metres and 37 tackles, Jake Trbojevic again proved why he is the form lock in the comp, edging out Jason Taumalolo.
