Sydney Roosters have continued their impressive recruitment and retention spree, with consistent back-rower Nat Butcher extending for a further three seasons.

The 26-year-old has cemented himself as a reliable fixture in the forward pack at Bondi in recent years, playing 126 first grade matches including the club's 2019 grand final triumph over Canberra.

Butcher has also shown his versatility for the Tricolours, covering both edge and middle roles, and has emerged as a potential NSW Origin bolter in the coming years.

He joins the likes of Connor Watson and Siua Wong in committing to the Roosters long-term in recent weeks, while the likes of Dom Young and Spencer Leniu will join the roster next season.

Nat Butcher re-signs with Sydney Roosters until 2027

In a statement released on Tuesday morning, Butcher said there was never any chance of him leaving the club.

“I’ve been part of the Roosters since I was 17 and it’s my home," he said.

“We’ve got a great crew here and I love that everyone in the building is committed to the same goal, so I’m stoked that I’ll continue to be part of this club."

Butcher came through the lower grades in the Rabbitohs system, plying his trade for both South Eastern and Marcellin College Randwick, but was pinched by the Roosters as a highly-touted teenager.

After representing a litany of under-age representative lineups including the Australian Schoolboys, Butcher would move into the Chooks top squad under Trent Robinson.

“Nat was the captain of our Under 20s side and it’s been terrific to watch him develop as a leader in our NRL squad over the years,” the coach said.

“He is a man of high integrity on and off the field, and with Nat you know that he will apply himself to everything he does, so it’s great that he will continue to represent the Roosters in the coming years."

Butcher's younger brother Egan remains signed with the Roosters until the end of 2026.
