Panthers hooker Mitch Kenny has been handed a Breach Notice by the NRL, regarding a social media post that the league says "brought the game and his Club into disrepute."
This notice comes over a month after the social media post, which Kenny blamed on 'trolls who grabbed my phone'.
Kenny now has five days to respond to the Breach Notice, before the NRL determines his fate.
Mitch Kenny Breach Notice explained: social media post lands player in hot water
The social media post at the centre of this issue is an Instagram story that Kenny uploaded in December 2023.
The story was a photo of Kenny's face, overlayed with the caption "Couple Boxing Day lines have got me in troubleeee".
The NRL was quickly notified of this post and announced that they would "be liaising with the club," in a statement to Wide World Of Sports.
Kenny was quick to try and quell the situation, blaming trolls for stealing his phone and posting the story, but it appears that the NRL has not bought that story, charging the 26-year-old with a Breach Notice following an NRL Integrity Unit investigation.
Will Mitch Kenny be fined or suspended?
Mitch Kenny has five days to respond to the NRL's Breach Notice, which was issued on Thursday afternoon.
While his punishment is not yet known, fellow NRL player Valentine Holmes was banned for one match and fined $25,000 for a similar incident last September, in which he was pictured on social media holding a small bag of white powder.
