Michael Maguire has all-but confirmed his next coaching move, with the Kiwis boss stepping down from his role to take up an inevitable role in the State of Origin arena with the NSW Blues.
After weeks of speculation and conjecture, NZRL confirmed the news on Friday afternoon, with Maguire relinquishing the position following a successful six-year tenure.
Earlier this month, Maguire's side pulled off a major upset in the Pacific Championships final, defeating a star-studded Australian lineup, giving the mentor a fitting send-off.
At this stage, NSWRL have not formally announced Maguire's appointment, but the premiership winner is expected to take over the vacant Blues duties following Brad Fittler's departure.

Michael Maguire officially steps down as New Zealand coach
In a media release, NZRL boss Greg Peters thanked Maguire for his services and wished him well for the future.
“The mana, history and whakapapa associated with the black and white jersey mean any role in and around the Kiwi team is the ultimate privilege," he said.
"Michael’s dedication to the role and players has seen him achieve incredible things over the last six years.
“Michael is the ultimate professional and has connected deeply with the NZRL whānau and playing group. We wish him nothing but success in his next career step.”
After a successful stint at South Sydney, the 49-year-old moved to the Wests Tigers and struggled to turn the club around at NRL level, but has remained a consistent fixture on the international stage since 2018.
During his 18 Tests in charge of the team, Maguire led New Zealand to 12 victories, but failed to help them reach the World Cup final in his only attempt last year.
Who will replace Michael Maguire as New Zealand coach?
At this stage, NZRL have not announced who will take over the national side, with the likes of Stacey Jones and Nathan Cayless reportedly in the mix.
