The Roosters were under pressure heading into their semi-final against Manly after a sobering defeat to Penrith in week one of the finals.
They were well beaten by 20 points and were coming into their semi-final against a Sea Eagles side full of belief.
Yet they dusted themselves off and blew Manly away, eventually winning 40-16 at Allianz Stadium.
Their preliminary final is a difficult one, seeing them venture to Melbourne to take on the Storm, but a Storm legend believes he saw enough from the performance to think the Roosters may have enough to pull off an upset.

Smith fancies Roosters to push Storm
Speaking on SEN's Breakfast with Vossy and Brandy, former Storm captain Cameron Smith says he was hugely impressed with how the Tricolours performed in the big win over Manly.
"I thought they were super on the weekend, and [it was] some of the best footy we've seen them play in a little bit," Smith said.
"People thinking about their performance against Penrith leading into that match against Manly and thinking 'this is going to be a pretty even contest', but I think they learnt a big lesson from that first week of [the] finals against Penrith.
"They didn't make the step up in that first 40 minutes against Penrith, and they just got washed off the field... The other night, that was a clinic in finals football, and it put them in a really good position now to get into Melbourne and give themselves a good chance of progressing through to a Grand Final."
It will be a tall order, especially as the Storm have won an incredible 10 of the last 12 games against the Roosters, including eliminating them from the finals last year.
Whilst Smith acknowledges the Storm are favourites, a confident Roosters side with Victor Radley and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves can beat anyone, he believes.
"I know a lot of people were saying after week one 'can we just skip through the next couple of weeks, it's Penrith and Storm for the Grand Final," he began, "but if the Roosters can go down there and play with that same intensity and the same type of discipline they showed the other night, they will give themselves an opportunity to try and beat Melbourne."
The preliminary final will be played on Friday September 27th at 7:50 p.m.
