Melbourne Storm player ratings for NRL grand final 2024
1. Ryan Papenhuyzen - 5
Made a bad error sending a kickoff out on the full. Had some flashes of nice play but couldn't make the desired impact.
2. Will Warbrick - 7.5
Delivered strong carries all night and was generally reliable under the high ball apart from one mistake. As the Storm forwards tired he often stepped up.
3. Jack Howarth - 4
A tough first grand final for Howarth. Committed an early error and then had a defensive misread to let Liam Martin in for a try. Never gave up though, and kept looking for the ball.
4. Nick Meaney - 6.5
Used his awareness to make a big play and recover possession in the first half. Slotted his only conversion of the night.
5. Xavier Coates - 8
Was threatening with the ball in hand for the entire 80 minutes. A safe pair of hands under the high ball and created chances in attack with some handy bat-backs.
6. Cameron Munster - 7.5
Showcased his elite running ability and thrived as the match progressed. Had some impressive defensive moments and was often on-hand to tidy up. Was the subject of a biting allegation in the closing stages.
7. Jahrome Hughes - 5
Couldn't impact the game like we've seen him do in 2024. A solid kicking performance but just couldn't create enough chances.
8. Tui Kamikamica - 5
Got through a heap of work early but looked very fatigued. Was withdrawn after 18 minutes.
9. Harry Grant - 8.5
Melbourne's captain was tireless as usual. He showcased his vision and strength to score the opening try despite a Penrith onslaught. Was ever-present defensively, too.
10. Josh King - 6.5
Got through his work and made strong carries where needed. Faded slightly late on.
11. Shawn Blore - 6
Had his hands full trying to contain Jarome Luai. Saw some decent openings although often couldn't find that final pass.
12. Eli Katoa - 7.5
Made two massive big plays to knock ball out of Penrith hands. Was key to the Storm's brief surge in the second half, bringing energy and toughness.
13. Trent Loiero - 6
Clocked over 100 run metres and didn't overcomplicate things. Solid but not enough to get a higher rating.
14. Tyran Wishart - 6.5
A bright contributor when introduced in the second half. Was an important boost of energy, even if he couldn't add any points.
15. Christian Welch - 5
Provided some much-needed relief as Melbourne began to tire. Did what he could in his 20 minute stint.
16. Lazarus Vaalepu - N/A
Played for just 10 minutes.
17. Alec MacDonald - 5
Dropped the ball with his first carry and gave away a late, costly penalty for a hit on Nathan Cleary. Played decent minutes and tackled with his heart.
