The South Sydney Rabbitohs have had considerable success adding English players to their squad over the years, and they may have found their next man up, with the team reportedly set to sign Lewis Dodd.

Dodd has played for Super League team St. Helens since 2020, and may sound familiar to NRL fans, being the man to score the golden-point field goal that took down the Penrith Panthers in the 2023 World Club Challenge.

It seems that Dodd's willingness to punish NRL teams has not changed, with the Englishman set to join South Sydney for the start of the 2025 season.

Who is Lewis Dodd?

Lewis Dodd is an English rugby league player, set to sign a long-term contract with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Dodd, 22 years old, has played for St. Helens in the Super League since 2020, but now looks to be moving Down Under, joining the Rabbitohs as of next season.

The young halfback began his journey with the Halton Hornets, before moving onto St. Helens' academy in 2017, making his senior debut in 2020.

NRL fans may already be familiar with the Englishman, who slotted a golden-point field goal to take down Penrith in the 2023 World Club Challenge.

Across five seasons with the Saints, Dodd made 75 appearances and scored 25 tries, showing elite form that Rabbitohs fans will be hoping he can bring with him.

The Rabbitohs will need to pay a premium to secure Dodd's services, with The Daily Telegraph reporting that the Rabbitohs football manager Mark Ellison has travelled to England to finalise what is believed to be a three-to-four year deal in the red and green.

Is Lewis Dodd replacing Lachlan Ilias?

Dodd's imminent signing has also caused possible unrest within the squad, with current star halfback Lachlan Ilias given the green light to explore his options with other teams, after the club seemingly signed his replacement.

Dodd has been one of the most exciting up-and-coming performers in the Super League, meaning South Sydney fans should be very excited to see him play.

Despite only playing eight games in the 2024 season, he made his minutes count, with an impressive scoring output, while his 2023 season was a monster effort, scoring 10 tries over 44 games.
