Manly second-rower Joel Thompson is reportedly on the verge of venturing overseas to the Super League and signing with Hull FC.

Thompson's two-year Sea Eagles contract will expire at season's end and Hull Live has revealed Hull are close to finalising a deal with the 210-game veteran.

He has fielded offers from a number of Super League clubs, still with a few years under his belt to offer at the age of 30.

Thompson has started in the back-row for Manly in every game for the past year-and-a-half, scoring nine tries across 35 appearances.

The Sea Eagles have Jack Gosiewski and Corey Waddell waiting in the ranks should he put pen to paper with Hull FC.

The Super League club are on the hunt for experience with Mark Minichiello and Sika Manu expected to leave at the end of 2019.

Establishing himself as a quality first grader across six seasons at Canberra, Thompson spent four years at St George Illawarra before being released from the final year of his deal to move to the Northern Beaches.

A proud indigenous player, the stalwart has made six appearances for the Indigenous All Stars and had two cracks at the Country Origin side.

Last week, Thompson was forced to deny using a homophobic slur at an opponent during the Sea Eagles' 36-18 defeat to the Titans at Lottoland..

Social media users accused Thompson of uttering a homophobic term after he was seen ranting during a break in play in the 68th minute.

However, he took to Twitter to reject the allegations.
