One of rugby league's most controversial figures is back in the game, with former NRL star Jarryd Hayne making his return to the sport.
Hayne spent the last two years in jail due to a sexual assault charge, but was released in June after his conviction was overturned on appeal.
He has now been invited to join the Fijian national team's camp in a coaching role, ahead of the upcoming Pacific Bowl series.
Jarryd Hayne makes shock rugby league return
After a 12 year NRL career including multiple State of Origin and national team call-ups, Hayne is returning to the sport, to help out the nation he once represented in Rugby 7s.
"It’s awesome," Hayne said Monday.
"On the way to the airport yesterday, watching that documentary from the ’08 [World Cup] squad following us in the village. It’s been a long journey...16 to 17 years.
"From army barracks, to now we’re in five-star hotels. We’ve come a long way. It’s always good to reminisce.
Hayne was brought in by Fiji coach Wise Kativerata, who told the SMH that Hayne will provide mentorship for the current squad including players like Sunia Turuva, Maika Sivo, and Viliame Kikau.
"He was happy to hear from us," Kativerata said.
"After a while, I told him about rugby league in Fiji and how it really needed a lift. Then I asked him to come along and help with the team because I knew that it would be good for him and good for us.
"At first he thought I was joking. But look at what he’s achieved in rugby league. And he’s a Fijian guy, so we want him to be part of it. He’s enjoying it.
"The players look up to what he did on the football field.
"To have him here and help out with the young fellas in the team, it will be very good for them."
