Wests Tigers' co-captain James Tamou will miss his team's opening match of the 2022 NRL season, following a dangerous tackle in a trial game against the Sydney Roosters.

The incident occurred on Friday night when he collected Sam Walker mid-air after a kick, resulting in the Roosters' youngster landing awkwardly on his head.

The club confirmed on Monday afternoon that Tamou will take the early guilty plea, meaning he will miss the round 1 clash with heavyweights Melbourne Storm.

In another incident from the same trial game, Sydney Roosters' Lindsay Collins has escaped a suspension for a low shot on Jackson Hastings.

Collins will only receive a fine with an early guilty plea.

The 2022 NRL season begins on Thursday, March 10.
