Brisbane have hit James Segeyaro with a club-imposed one-game suspension and 40 hours of community service after he was caught drink-driving on Monday.
Segeyaro was pulled over by police on his way to getting a coffee when he registered a breath test reading of 0.027, needing a reading of zero to be cleared on his P-plates.
He was issued with a notice to appear in court for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The former Shark will also complete a traffic offender program at his own expense.
There were fears Segeyaro, whose career has been marred by off-field controversy, would potentially face harsher penalties after recording an indiscretion to his name just two games into his tenure at Brisbane.
However, the club are satisfied with the actions they have taken and hope it sends a powerful anti-drink driving message.
''James knows he did the wrong thing and we trust that he will learn from his error in judgement,'' Broncos chief executive Paul White said.
The NRL Integrity Unit have signed off on the sanction and Segeyaro met with Integrity Unit head Karyn Murphy in Sydney on Wednesday to apologise in person for his actions.
The 28-year-old has made an immediate impact at his new club, scoring the game-sealing try in an inspiring win over reigning premiers Sydney Roosters a fortnight ago.
He has played second fiddle to youngster Jake Turpin off the bench as star hooker Andrew McCullough recovers from a knee injury.
