NRL contract news: Knights prop Jacob Saifiti officially signs fresh three-year deal image

Jacob Saifiti has knocked back attempts from rival clubs to lure him away from Newcastle, with the representative front-rower officially inking a three-year contract extension.

The 27-year-old has cemented himself as the leader of the Knights forward pack in recent years alongside twin brother Daniel, playing over 140 matches for the club.

Saifiti has represented NSW on two occasions, as well as making seven Test match appearances for Fiji earlier in his first grade career.

The news comes as the Knights also close in on the retention of star centre Bradman Best, who is expected to knock back a lucrative offer from the Wests Tigers

Jacob Saifiti re-signs with Knights until end of 2027

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, the club's head of football Peter Parr lauded the extension as a major move for the Knights.

“Jacob has shown over the past few seasons that he is one of the most consistent middle forwards in the NRL," he said.

“We have no doubt his best football remains in front of him, and we are delighted he has re-committed to the Knights.“

Knights coach Adam O'Brien now has three elite-level props at his disposal, with young gun Leo Thompson emerging in recent seasons and making his international debut for New Zealand in the Pacific Championships.

Jack Hetherington and Mat Croker round out the front-line rotation, while fresh faces such as Myles Martin and Kai Pearce-Paul could push for a spot in the pack in 2024 and beyond.
