According to the Sydney Morning Herald, men's State of Origin players earned $30,000 per match in 2023, with that figure likely unchanged for 2024.

During the pandemic, players received a reduced $10,000 fee in 2020 and took home $15,000 per game in 2021.

How does this compare to the regular season?

The average player salary – which would not apply to the majority of Origin stars – jumped from $358,000 to $428,000 in 2024, per AFR.

Split over 24 regular season games, that is roughly $17,833 per match.

An increase was also made for women's match payments in 2023, with players taking home $15,000 per game.

The change brought NSW players in line with their Queensland opponents, who benefitted from a landmark deal made the year prior.

This figure is understood to have remained for the expanded three-game series in 2024.
