The Sydney Roosters and NRL are rallying around club great and former salary cap auditor Ian Schubert after a motorcycle accident left him facing a possible foot amputation.
Schubert underwent lengthy operations on Sunday and Monday as doctors fought to save the foot, which was badly injured in a collision on Sunday afternoon.
The former international winger and his family are being supported by the Roosters, including former skipper and coach Brad Fittler, and ex-colleagues at the NRL.
Schubert played fullback in the Roosters’ premiership-winning side of 1975, coached by the legendary Jack Gibson.
He was named man-of-the match after helping Easts secure back-to-back titles with a then record 38-0 win over St George.
In recent times, Schubert was the NRL’s salary cap cop before moving into a consultancy role at the Roosters.
