Welcome to The Fair Dinkum Department - a weekly deep dive into rugby league's hottest issues and whether or not we think they are real or ridiculous.

NSW are in the midst of a crisis, with pressure mounting on head coach Brad Fittler and captain James Tedesco following their disappointing performance in the State of Origin opener.

Elsewhere, concerns over the representative period scheduling have dominated headlines once again, while the circus at St George Illawarra continues to roll on.

Here's your weekly look at the biggest issues in the NRL, courtesy of The Fair Dinkum Department.

Should the NSW Blues make mass changes for Origin?

After a disappointing performance in the series opener, pressure is mounting on NSW selectors to swing the axe and make wholesale changes to the lineup for Game II.

Nathan Cleary has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while the likes of Cameron Murray and Tom Trbojevic are also in doubt.

Is Brad Fittler's coaching career on life support?

Speaking of pressure - nobody will be feeling it more than the Blues coach heading into Suncorp Stadium on June 21.

After losing the 2020 and 2022 series, Fittler is now on the verge of another unsuccessful campaign in charge of NSW and it could spell the end for his time in the top job.

Will James Tedesco survive this year's Origin series?

One of the best players of the past decade, Tedesco was well below his best in Adelaide and is now facing the prospect of competition from the likes of Latrell Mitchell and Dylan Edwards.

But should the skipper actually be under pressure to retain the No.1 jumper long-term?

Does the NRL need to change Origin scheduling?

This year's Origin period has already shone a light on the shambolic scheduling, with multiple key players going down injured in Round 14 and the standard of football dropping in club-land.

Calls have begun for the Origin series to be moved to the end of the year - but we have a better solution.

Is Shane Flanagan the right man for the Dragons?

Origin is dominating the headlines across the rugby league world right now, but the ongoing circus at the Dragons hasn't completely faded into the background.

After the shock decision from Jason Ryles to snub his former club, attention has now turned to former premiership winner Shane Flanagan in the head coaching role.
