Welcome to The Fair Dinkum Department - a weekly deep dive into rugby league's hottest issues and whether or not we think they are real or ridiculous.

Round 18 provided three massive losses for the NRL's cellar-dwellers, with the Tigers and Bulldogs kept scoreless in their worst performances of the year. 

Elsewhere, the growing noise around Ben Hunt has continued, with many questioning the decision from the Dragons to allow the Maroons star to remain as captain of the club.

Should the Wests Tigers sack Tim Sheens?  

Following a devastating 74-0 loss to the Cowboys, all eyes have turned to the Wests Tigers coaching situation.

Tim Sheens is still in charge for another 12 months before handing the top job over to Benji Marshall - but should the struggling club make the move sooner?

Are the Cowboys a genuine premiership contender? 

On the flip side of Saturday night's shellacking, North Queensland have continued their rise up the ladder and now find themselves just two wins outside the top-four with two more byes up their sleeve.

Todd Payten has done a tremendous job to turn their fortunes around over the past six weeks, and there's a very real possibility the Cowboys could cause some headaches in September.

Do fans have the right to boo their own players? 

Canterbury's own struggles continued on the weekend, with a 66-0 defeat at the hands of the Knights leaving a large contingent of their fans feeling rather frustrated.

Reed Mahoney staunchly defended his side in the post-game press conference after they were booed off the field, before back-tracking with a social media apology.

Can Ben Hunt remain as Dragons captain? 

Another week of Ben Hunt and Dragons drama, with the side suffering a heavy 52-16 loss to local rivals Cronulla on Thursday night.

With the finals out of the picture and Hunt's future uncertain, many believe it's time for the Red V to look in a new direction from the leadership standpoint.
