Dylan Napa has reportedly been shown the door at Catalans Dragons despite having a contract until 2023, according to French newspaper L'Independant

The prop - who last played in the NRL in 2021 for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs - joined the French-based Super League team earlier this year

He made 18 appearances in an eventful debut season where he was suspended for four games for a shoulder charge before missing five matches after a striking incident.

Napa also played in the Dragons' elimination playoff, which they lost to Leeds.

L'Independant has reported that Napa - along with fellow Australian and former NRL player Josh Drinkwater - has been told to find a new club.

It is understood that head coach and former Sydney Roosters assistant Steve McNamara is looking to free up money for the upcoming season.

However, Mitchell Pearce and Tyrone May have reportedly dodged the cull.

Napa signed a two-year deal to play in the south of France last year and was set to reunite with former Roosters teammate Siosiua Taukeiaho in 2023.

Currently, the 29-year-old is at the Rugby League World Cup with the Cook Islands, although he is yet to make their starting side.

Which club could Dylan Napa play for next?

Whilst Napa's exit is yet to be confirmed, it appears that he will be on the hunt for a new club in 2023.

Earning a contract with a different Super League club is the most likely possibility, assuming the prop doesn't push for an NRL return.

If he does seek a return to Australia, the former NRL player will potentially face an uphill battle after being released by a struggling Bulldogs side in 2021.

Why did Dylan Napa leave the Bulldogs?

Making his NRL debut for the Roosters in 2013, Napa made a promising start to his career in Bondi.

He played 122 games for Easts, earning a call-up to the Queensland Origin side in 2017.

A move to the Bulldogs in 2019 followed, with Napa embroiled in a lewd video scandal.

In that same season, he suffered a grade two syndesmosis injury which subsequently ruled him out for several weeks.

After finishing 15th with the Bulldogs in 2020, Napa was then involved in a COVID-19 breach in 2021, before he was sent packing from the club ahead of the 2022 season.
