Departed Bulldogs prop David Klemmer has finally reached out to a couple of teammates to explain his reasons for leaving the club – but it appears coach Dean Pay is still awaiting a call.

It’s understood Klemmer has spoken to at least two Canterbury players in the 24 hours since officially being announced as a Newcastle Knight for the next five years.

They are at peace with his decision to switch clubs after he outlined the reasons behind the move.

But as of Wednesday morning,  it’s believed Klemmer had still not made contact with Pay.

The representative prop upped stumps without officially telling Pay or teammates he was off to Newcastle, admitting on Tuesday: “I haven’t spoken to Dean yet."

“That’s something I’ve got to do and especially with the other players as well.”

WHAT'S DOING? Rugby league is in a race to the bottom through lies and deception

The Dogs insist they are comfortable with Klemmer’s decision to leave and are more than happy to secure Dylan Napa as a like-for-like replacement on less money.

“Klem was notorious for not returning calls or texts when he was at Canterbury, so it’s no real surprise he didn’t contact anyone before leaving,” a Bulldogs source told Sporting News.

“Those still at the club are happy all this stuff has been sorted and the players and coach think Napa is a teammate who will fit in nicely.”
