Toronto Wolfpack have stood down their entire playing squad and cancelled training after four players showed mild symptoms of coronavirus.

Currently in England, the squad will self-isolate with a home game not requiring them back in Toronto until April 18.

The Wolfpack will play Wakefield next on March 22, although the fixture is almost certain to be postponed or cancelled.

The Wolfpack released a statement on behalf of coach Brian McDermott on Monday morning.

We train in an environment where we interact with students and members of the public and we vehemently do not want to act as a possible vector for COVID-19 which is why we have taken this immediate action. The health and welfare of our players, staff, fans and partners is always our primary concern. Our main goal is to prevent any further spread to our playing squad and their immediate family members, therefore we are now postponing all practice and have tasked our squad with keeping themselves healthy

Super League clubs with meet in Huddersfield on Monday night, local time, to decide on the best course of action.

Super League CEO Ralph Rimmer hasn’t ruled out suspending the season – though the cost would be extreme.

"[The financial impact] would be huge,” Rimmer told Sky Sports.

"The clubs base their business models on having a certain amount of home games. It is the case all the way through the nation, the knock-on effect is huge. We are not in isolation, we will be as pragmatic as possible."
