Remember the name Bronson Xerri, NRL fans.

The Cronulla Sharks youngster made his debut in the NSW Cup on Saturday afternoon for the Newtown Jets, and the outside back made an instant impression.

He scored a hat-trick on debut for the Jets in their 50-24 victory over the Wentworthville Magpies at Henson Park.

In fact, the 17-year-old scored all three of his tries in the first half for the Sharks' feeder club.

The youngster has made an impression throughout his rugby league career to date and has been picked in rep teams from a very young age.

Xerri was named in the NSW Blues side for the U18 State of Origin game this season, where he scored a try in his state's 16-10 victory.

With Jesse Ramien heading to the Newcastle Knights at season's end, and Ricky Leutele moving to the Toronto Wolfpack, the Sharks may look to develop Xerri in the big leagues next year.

Other players to score meat pies for the Jets on Saturday included Anthony Moraitis (two), Blayke Brailey, Charlton Schaafhausen (two) and Addison Demetriou.

Sharks fans were, understandably, a little excited.

Currently, the Jets sit fifth on the ladder with eight victories from their 16 matches thus far.
