Penrith have upgraded the contract of youngster Brian To'o, seeing him promoted from a development deal to the top 30 squad.

To'o is now free to make his NRL debut after being named in the Panthers side to face the Warriors on Friday evening.

The young outside back was named on the wing for the clash at Panthers Stadium.

To'o, 20, spoke to the club website about the opportunity following the announcement on Thursday.

"I’m so grateful to be in this position and to have this incredible opportunity to make my NRL debut," To’o said.

"From the moment I played SG Ball with the Panthers, I told myself I had to stay hungry and work hard every day to reach this point.

"I can’t wait to feel the atmosphere when I take my first step onto the field tomorrow night."

To'o has scored four tries in eight games in the Canterbury Cup so far in 2019 and leads the competition for post-contact metres.

Penrith football manager Matt Cameron said the club was excited about what he could bring to the team.

"Brian is an outstanding example of what can be achieved thanks to the hard work of the Panthers development staff," Cameron said.

"He is a home-grown talent who has come through the system and earned his way into the NRL squad.

"He brings great energy to our team and we are all excited to see what the future holds for him."
