The wife of Brett Seymour has claimed that she was regularly violently assaulted by the former NRL player.

Roseanne Seymour told Channel Nine that the former Brisbane, Cronulla and Warriors player lost "everything" after becoming heavily involved in gambling.

She claimed the former halfback beat her on several occasions, often after he'd been drinking heavily.

On one occasion, she ended up in a coma in a Toowoomba hospital covered in bruises.

For his part, Seymour, who played 123 NRL games before a stint in England, denied the allegations.

"The allegations made by my partner are denied," Seymour said in a written statement provided to Channel Nine.

"I don’t intend to participate in a trial orchestrated by the media.

"If those allegations need to be determined they should be determined at the appropriate time in an appropriate forum."

Seymour, 34, began his career as a 17-year-old with the Broncos in 2002, playing 62 matches across five seasons.

He then moved to the Sharks where he assumed the first choice number seven role before being shown the door following an alcohol-fueled incident in 2009.

A two-year stint with the Warriors ending in 2011 brought to a close his time in the NRL before he spent four years in England.
