Ben Murdoch-Masila has been granted an early release from the Warriors, with a move to the Dragons expected to be announced.

The 31-year-old returned to the NRL in 2021 after a lengthy stint in the Super League, but dealt with injuries and was restricted to just 27 games across his two seasons at the club.

Murdoch-Masila recently featured in the Rugby League World Cup for Tonga and has represented the nation on 14 occasions to go with his 83 NRL appearances.

The Daily Telegraph are reporting that Murdoch-Masila will join the Red V in 2023, with the club expected to sign the front-rower on a two-year deal as they look to bolster their forward pack.

Anthony Griffin's side struggled in the middle of the field in 2022, but have only been able to add Zane Musgrove and Nick Tui-Loso to their squad at this stage.

Warriors CEO Cameron George wished the prop well in his move to the Dragons.

“While we were keen for Ben to remain with us for the full term of his contract we weren’t in a position right now to offer a further contract beyond this,” he said.

“At the same time another club offered him a longer-term deal giving him the security he was looking for.

“We’ve loved having Ben and Roxy around our club and we really appreciate the contribution they’ve made. They go with our best wishes.”

St George Illawarra are expected to confirm the signing in the coming days.

More to come...
