Sacking Anthony Seibold would be the 'humane thing' for Brisbane Broncos to do - Phil Gould image

Phil Gould says the "humane" thing for the Broncos would be to let embattled coach Anthony Seibold go.

Brisbane have won just one of their eight games since the competition's restart, most recently going down 48-0 at the hands of the Tigers.

Club CEO Paul White earlier this month reaffirmed his support for the coach, though Friday's result has again ramped up the pressure.

The Broncos have reportedly given the coach a target of five wins from their remaining 10 games in order to keep his job.

Speaking on 100% Footy, league heavyweight Gould described Seibold as "shot" at the club, but thinks they will persevere with him.

"If the way this team is performing is a reflection of the coach... you'd have to let him go, based on performance," Gould said.

"And probably for his own mental health and his own welfare.

"I feel sorry for him in press conferences, I've seen this look before, plenty of times.

"It'd probably be the humane thing to do, but business wise, they're probably not in a position to do that.

"He's shot, he really is and I just don't know whether he's gonna resurrect himself there unless they put some people with him to help him with this process."

Gould however believes Seibold will be given the chance to build a roster as most of the problems at Red Hill come down to the cattle.

"I'm telling you, they're not going to let him go, they're going to stick by him," he said.

"After the start of the season they had to go out and buy a 33-year-old Issac Luke and a 33-year-old Ben Te'o to get some experience in the place. I mean the Broncos, really?

"Who's allowed the roster to get to that point?

"They could all go to other clubs and perform very, very well, but as a group, does that roster look like a winning roster?

"They can't deal with setbacks, they can't deal with pressure."

Brisbane face another tough test this weekend when they host the Storm on Friday night.
