Andrew Fifita has announced that Saturday's match against the Bulldogs will be his last home game for the Sharks.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding the forward's future at Cronulla, with it now confirmed he will leave the club at the end of 2022.

"I announced to the boys that it's going to be my last year at the Sharks," Fifita said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"It's the right time to tell the boys, leading into the last home game of the season. I feel like they deserve the right to know before anyone else.

"It's time for me to move on from the Sharks. Much as I'm heartbroken, I'm quite happy I've left on good terms, and especially with the young ones coming through, it's time to depart."

Whilst his time with the Sharks is coming to an end, Fifita is not yet planning to retire from rugby league, telling reporters on Tuesday he is open to finding a new club.

The 33-year-old also refused to rule out a potential return to the Tigers - the team he began his NRL career with.

There are also suggestions he could join his twin brother David in England, who currently plays for Wakefield Trinity in the Super League.

"I wouldn't say [this is my] retirement," he said.

"I reckon I've still got another year in me somewhere else.

"My focus is on the Sharks at the moment.

"[There could be] opportunities out there, especially to go help my brother overseas or in the NRL."

In a career spanning 12 years, Fifita has so far played 246 NRL matches - 207 with the Sharks.

The damaging forward notably scored the match-winning try in Cronulla's historic 2016 grand final victory.

He has also represented Australia, Tonga, New South Wales and the Indigenous All Stars throughout his career.

The Sharks will face the Bulldogs at 5:30 pm on Saturday, August 27, with a lap of honour planned for Fifita after the match.
