Ash Barty has won through to the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal, winning nine of the last 10 games to take down Kiki Bertens 6-3 6-1.

The 15th seed, Barty nullified the tricky windy conditions, while Bertens - who had previously beaten ninth seed Karolina Pliskova and eighth seed Petra Kvitova - put up 31 unforced errors.

Barty needed just 55 minutes in the quarter-final against her Dutch opponent to reach the semi-finals on her Montreal debut.

The Aussie made the last 16 when the event was held in Toronto 12 months ago.

The 22-year-old was pleased with her performance, but will need to lift to another gear when she faces top-ranked player in the world, Simona Halep, in the semis.

"It was really tricky conditions and we were both struggling a little," Barty said in her on-court interview after the match.

"I’m very happy to come through and get a little bit better during the match."

Halep swept aside Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 7-5 6-1 in their quarter-final match.

Garcia took down Maria Sharapova to book a date with Halep, but the Romanian and reigning French Open winner was far too good.

Meanwhile, reigning US Open champion Sloane Stephens dominated Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova.

The third-seeded American made the semi-finals for the second straight year, and swept aside Sevastova 6-2 6-2.

"I've been playing well and it’s a good start here to the US Open Series," Stephens said.

"I’m happy to be back in North America and playing on hard courts, and I’m hoping for some more good results."

Stephens will face either Elina Svitolina (5) or Elise Mertens (14) for a spot in the final.
