Premier League top scorer prediction 2024/25: Who will win the Golden Boot? image

With the 2024-25 Premier League campaign almost upon us, marksmen in all corners of the country will be polishing their shooting boots in the hopes of firing their team to success, and themselves towards the Golden Boot.

Unsurprisingly, Erling Haaland has won it in the last two seasons, scoring 27 goals in 31 matches last time out to help fire City to a fourth title on the bounce, and take the Golden Boot.

Cole Palmer was a surprise candidate who finished second, whilst Mo Salah, Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke also had strong campaigns in front of goal.

Those players and many more will be looking to hunt down the Norwegian this season, and The Sporting News looks at the chances of anyone catching City's main man in the goalscoring charts.

Odds to win the Premier League Golden Boot 2023/24

Erling Haaland is the favourite to win the Golden Boot, which is the least a player deserves when he has won the Golden Boot two seasons in a row.

Bookmakers are expecting him to have little competition in the race, with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah a distant second in the race, currently priced at 11.00 compared to Haaland's 1.72.

Premier League Golden Boot winner prediction 2024/25

  • The Sporting News prediction: Erling Haaland

Sorry, no hot takes here, we're predicting Haaland to become the first player since Thierry Henry to win three Golden Boots in a row.

He was simply superhuman in his first season, but he has shown that even time out of the side due to injury won't stop him, as he is still able to bang in the goals whenever he plays.

There are times when he cuts an isolated figure up top and can get frustrated, but there is little doubt he is the best striker in the league.

Should he somehow fall well below his lofty standards, Mo Salah will hope to be in the discussion, though his end-of-season form was poor, whilst Ollie Watkins will also hope to be in strong goalscoring form this season after impressing for England in the Euros.

Cole Palmer became Chelsea's most important player last year - and he scored in the recent Euros final – but many of his goals for the Blues came from the spot, meaning his goal output could change based on how many times Chelsea earn spot-kicks this season.

Premier League Golden Boot winners since 1992

Below is the total list of Golden Boot winners in every season of the Premier League.

The previous goalscoring high before Haaland came along was seen in back-to-back years between 1993 and 1995 where Andy Cole and Alan Shearer scored 34 goals each, albeit in seasons in which each time played 42 games. The lowest was 18, seen in the years between 1997-1999.
